ROBERT PIEPER

Beginning with the 1992 Greater Houston Athletic Trainers Society Student Athletic Trainer Clinic the poster contest has been named in Robert Howard Pieper's memory.

Robert Howard Pieper, the Athletic Trainer for Westfield High School in Houston, Texas and his team had just won their final regular season game with playoffs beginning the following weekend. That night, November 8th, 1991 at 11:00 PM Robert was hit by a drunk driver on his way home from the game. The drunk driver crossed the centerline on a four-lane highway and hit Robert head on. The drunk driver died at the scene with a blood alcohol level of 0.237. Robert was rushed by life flight to Hermann Hospital and received emergency surgery by the esteemed Dr. Red Duke. Unfortunately, his injuries were so great that he was not able to recover and passed away at 5:00AM the following morning.

Robert gave his life working with the high school sports programs in his community. Robert started his Athletic Training career at an early age. He was an Athletic Trainer throughout his high school years at McCullough High School of The Woodlands, Texas. After high school he attended Texas Tech University where he also was an Athletic Trainer. Upon graduation from college he was an Athletic Trainer at three local high schools: Livingston High School, Aldine High School, and Westfield High School. He was an example of a hard working individual succeeding at what he loved best, working with kids. He was able to achieve great things while touching the lives of individuals he came to know. His influence and hard work with high school athletes has been greatly missed by all who worked with him.

His parents, William and Joyce Pieper, of the Woodlands, are proud of his accomplishments and feel it is a great honor to have this presentation given in his memory.
