Each year GHATS presents two service awards for our professional members. Both of these awards have been named in honor of Athletic Trainers who have demonstrated a genuine love of and were pioneers in our profession.
bobby gunn award
The “Robert H. Gunn Memorial Trophy”, as it was named in 1990, is named in honor of Mr. Bobby Gunn who was a pioneer in our profession and who has throughout his career has demonstrated a genuine love of our profession. This award will be given each year to a GHATS member for their pursuit of excellence in Sports Medicine and distinguished service to the Greater Houston Athletic Trainers’ Society.
- Current Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer,
- Member of GHATS,
- Practicing Athletic Trainer,
- 5 years experience, and
- Exhibited meritorious service to GHATS in the last 12 months.
tom wilson award
The “Tom Wilson Service Award”, as it was named in 1995, is named in honor of Mr. Tom Wilson who is a pioneer in our profession and who has throughout his career served our profession. This award will be given each year to a GHATS member for their service to the Greater Houston Athletic Trainers’ Society.

- Exhibited meritorious service to GHATS in the last 12 months.

Each year GHATS also presents three scholarships for use by a graduating high school student athletic trainer to further their college education, regardless of major. Please send your nominations to Susan Smith at Westfield High School. MORE>>>

The Greater Houston Athletic Trainers Society will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating student athletic trainer. The award is given every year to recognize a deserving student for distinguished service to athletic training and to their community.
